The Seven Eight Principles
  1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person;

  2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;

  3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;

  4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;

  5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;

  6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;

  7. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

  8. And our Eighth Principle... We affirm and promote the following 8th Principle:

    Journeying toward spiritual wholeness by building a diverse, multicultural Beloved Community that by our actions accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.

POET LAUREATE CORNER

In September 2026, the Board affirmed that significant initiatives enriching our congregational life deserve special recognition and commendation.

In keeping with that spirit, Sandra J. F. was appointed our congregation’s first Poet Laureate.

Her poem, The Sociocratic Dove, celebrates and commemorates our adoption of dynamic inclusive practices.

The Sociocratic Dove

We know that Love frees us of tightly binding bands,
And lets us join our hands with other hands.

It’s a new kind of helpful, useful evolution,
Now ready for the Sociocratic revolution!

We can now put away some old-time rules
And give Democracy and ourselves new tools.

One-by one our hand-holds form a circle that
Our mind deepens and our heart fuels.

It blesses us with deep ideas and helps in our decisions
That reflect our worthiness, values and our visions

In Winter, Spring and Fall, when our choir sings - -
Especially in our September and Fall, when our

Selection soars, on our New Year’s wings.
Spoken by each of us, we listen, hear things near

And clear, gyrating in the circle’s tide,
Enlarged now to a sphere, a revolving ride

Around Love, for each of us here,
Clinging, cleaning, healing in new ways,

Whirling, twirling, feeling the real things
Until we hear the song of Love from tongue to ear.

Don’t hide your hopes, decide or pass. If you
Choose to select, share your choice, your ways.

It may be the ways most of us prefer
And be glad to praise.

It won’t be perfect. Nothing, while we live, can
Be perfect, but in our circular sphere the calls

From above may be from God, or not, but treat
Them all as a call of Love.

When we select or elect, the voice we hear is
The song of our loving Sociocratic Dove!
